Roy Wood life and times

Roy Wood is one of the most talented people in rock’n’roll history. In the early days he was with The Falcons and Mike Sheridan and the Nightriders.

The Move

In 1966 The Move formed from three prominent Birmingham groups.
Roy Wood from Mike Sheridan and the Nightriders, vocalist Carl Wayne, bassist Chris “Ace” Kefford and drummer Bev Bevan from Carl Wayne and the Vikings, and guitarist Trevor Burton from Danny King and the Mayfair Set.

By early 1970, Chris Kefford, Trevor Burton and Carl Wayne were headed for pastures green. Jeff Lynne joined Roy Wood’s new group, Electric Light Orchestra. Wood’s vision was that ELO would pick up where the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper left off.

The Move continued to be successful, which meant that the Move and ELO ran side-by-side until 1972.

Roy Wood left ELO after their first album and formed Wizzard. In 1973 they recorded one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day.

Wizzard ran its course and ended in 1975. In 1977 Roy Wood formed the very short-lived Wizzo Band.

Since then Roy Wood has continued to write, produce, record and perform in a number of different guises. In 2018 he was on the road with the Roy Wood Rock and Roll Band.
