Billy Fury & Bryan Ferry

This show takes a look at two rock’n’roll stars from two very different eras.

BILLY FURY

Ronald Wycherley was born on 17 April 1940 in Liverpool, England. He found fame as Billy Fury, one of England’s rock’n’rollers emerging in the late 1950s.

It all started when he sent Marty Wilde’s manager, Larry Parnes, a demo of some of his songs, hoping Marty Wild would record one of them. Ronald Wycherley met them both backstage at the Essolso in Birkenhead to discuss the songs. Larry Parnes liked them so much he offered Wycherley the opportunity to open the second half of the show. Furthermore, Parnes signed him to his stable of rock’n’roll artists and gave him a new stage name – Billy Fury.

Billy Fury was one of the most successful singers of his era, with 26 hit singles, spanning 1959 to 1966.

BRYAN FERRY

Jump to the early 1970s, where Brian Ferry found fame in the emerging-glam rock scene. In 1971 he formed Roxy Music, a sort of thinking-man’s glam-rock band.

Brian Ferry was also a very successful solo artist. His 26 hit singles started in the early 1970s and continued to 1995. Roxy Music also found chart success, with 17 hits from 1972 to 1982.
