John Lennon’s Flaming Pie Vision
Highly respected English beat poet Royston Ellis, says that he suggested the Beetles “ee” to “ea”, as in beat poetry.
In the first issue of Mersey Beat magazine in July 1961, John Lennon said that the name “Beatles” with an “a” came to him – in a vision.
“A man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them, ‘From this day on you are Beatles with an A’”
In a Royston Ellis interview with the International Business Times in 2013. He said that when he was in Liverpool in the summer of 1960 he stayed with John and Stuart Sutcliffe at their flat-share at 3 Gambier Terrace.
One evening Ellis cooked a frozen chicken pie for dinner and burned the pie.
This Royston Ellis story is probably the inspiration for John’s “flaming pie” vision.
