Making the Pied Piper of Cleveland

When Bill Haley shared a stage with Elvis at Brooklyn High School Auditorium, Cleveland, Ohio on 20 October 1955, little did he realise that the rock’n’roll word was about to go through a seismic change. Haley was at the hight of his success following the worldwide success of Rock Around the Clock.

Pat Boone was on the same bill, as was the little-known Elvis Presley with Scotty and Bill.

Cleveland DJ, Bill Randle arranged the gig to make a film short.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame put up a plaque to commemorate the event. “Elvis Presley and Bill Haley performed here during the making of the film short, the Pied Piper of Cleveland”.

Sadly, the film never saw the light of day.

Three months later everything changed, when Elvis released Heartbreak Hotel and the King of Rock’n’Roll exploded onto an unsuspecting world!
