In April 1976, after finishing a gig at Ellis Auditorium in Memphis, Bruce Springsteen jumped into a cab to try and meet his hero, Elvis Presley.
He arrived at Graceland and climbed over the wall. Before he could knock on Elvis’s door, he was apprehended by security guards who failed to recognise him and turfed him off the premises.
As it happened his trip was in vain, since The King was away in Lake Tahoe, Nevada about to start a ten-day residency.
The following November, Jerry Lee Lewis was arrested outside Graceland. He was waving a gun around and demanding to see Elvis.
Jerry lee was shouting, “Tell Elvis – the Killer’s here to see him”. Sadly for him, rather than inform Elvis, the guards called the police and Jerry Lee was arrested
