Elvis’s only advertisement was for – donuts
Elvis’s popularity was rising and he was a regular performer on the Louisiana Hayride radio show.
On 6 November 1954 the show aired Elvis’s only advertisement, a short ditty for Southern Maid donuts. It went like this…
“You can get ‘em piping hot after 4 pm, you can get ‘em piping hot. Southern Maid doughnuts hit the spot. You can get ‘em piping hot after 4 pm”
The store sold donuts all day but “after 4 pm” they could be made to order and served “piping hot”.
Sadly, no recordings of this advert are known to have survived. However, a Johhny Cash advert for Southern maid donuts has made its way onto CD.
