In this Rock’n’Roll Unravelled Show, we’re taking a look at the background to some of the Christmas songs and what else was happening in the 1970s.

With great Christmas music, some you’ll recognise and some that is very rarely, if ever, played on the radio.

The 1970s was a time of development for the music scene, with new genres emerging including, glam, metal and jazz-rock.

New crazes arrived with skateboards and BMX bicycles. It was also a dark time (literally) in the UK. The three-day week and the miner’s strike brought black-outs and turmoil. It also toppled the Ted Heath Conservative Government and in came Labour with Harold Wilson at the helm.
