UK Christmas Chart History Radio Show

A look at the coveted Christmas hits, since the UK charts started as a Top-12 in 1952 right up to 2018’s Christmas hits. We’ll distinguish between Christmas hits (songs with a Christmas theme) and singles which just happened to be hits on the Christmas-week chart. The classic Christmas singles, #1s and near misses for the top spot. The regular Christmas hitmakers like Elvis, Cliff and The Beatles. The golden age of the Christmas #1s and #2s in the 1970s and ’80s, and much, much more…

PLAYLIST
1 Greg Lake – I Believe in Father Christmas

3 The Darkness – Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End)
4 Elvis Presley – Blue Christmas
5 The Scaffold – Lily the Pink

7 Darlene Love – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

THE ROCK’N’ROLL UNRAVELLED SHOW

We’ll be looking at how rock’n’roll came about. It’s development into rock music in the mid-1960s and the array of rock genres which followed in the late 1960s and ‘70s. Blues, R&B, rock’n’roll, rock, prog, folk rock, country rock, psychedelia, glam, early metal, punk, new wave… they will all find their way into the shows. Plus artists and bands some well known, some more on the cult side. Stories behind classic singles and albums, record labels, venues, gigs… Not forgetting the people behind the scenes, managers, promoters, writers, Svengalis – the people who made it all happen.

If it’s relevant to the music of the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s I’ll be talking about it.
There will be some great music, some you’ll recognise and some that you might well be hearing for the first time.
