The wall-of-sound, before and after… The only record producer to be more famous than his artists – Phil Spector Story podcast.

Phil Spector scored an American #1, as a member of The Teddy Bears, with To Know Him is To Love Him in 1958. Not only did he perform with the band but he also wrote and produced this impressive debut.

He honed his skills at Atlantic Records but real fame as a producer came when he formed his own label Philles with Lester Sill and created his legendary wall-of-sound.

Phil Spector started off the 1970s by taking the Beatles’ Get Back tapes and turning them into the band’s swansong, Let It Be. The Ramones and Leonard Cohen both recorded albums with him and neither wanted to repeat the experience.

The end came when he was found guilty of the murder of Lana Clarkson. In 2009 he was sentenced to, 19 years to life.
