It was recorded on 22 June 1961, during their second Hamburg residency They backed singer and guitarist Tony Sheridan. The session was produced by Bert Kaempfert. The single was released as Tony Sheridan & The Beat Brothers.
There’s a famous story that, on 28 October 1961 Raymond Jones walked into Brian Epstein’s record store asked him for a copy. Brian hadn’t heard of the Beatles and a week later went to see them at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
