LIVERPOOL SCENE
BEFORE THE BEATLES

Liverpool Before The Beatles

A look at how the Liverpool music scene developed in the 1950s and early 1960s. The Beatles started out as the Quarrymen in 1957. They became “The Beatles” when drummer Pete Best joined in 1960 but it was after Ringo Starr joined in 1962 that they became the iconic Fab Four.
Jazz clubs were forced to adopt the new beat music. Some of the 1950s skiffle outfits, such as the Mars Bars and the Four Jays, became 1960s legends. Allan Williams took the Beatles to Hamburg and Sam Leach nearly became their manager.

This show looks at the clubs, the bands and the people who helped to shape the Liverpool music scene before the Beatles found their own success. By the middle of the 1960s Merseybeat bands were dominating the British and American music scenes but this is where it all began…

ABOUT THE ROCK’N’ROLL UNRAVELLED SHOW

We’ll be looking at how rock’n’roll came about. It’s development into rock music in the mid-1960s the array of rock genres in the late 1960s and ‘70s. Blues, R&B, rock’n’roll, rock, prog, folk rock, country rock, psychedelia, glam, early metal, punk, new wave… will all find their way into the shows. Plus artists and bands some well known, some more on the cult side. Stories behind classic singles and albums, record labels, venues, gigs… Not forgetting the people behind the scenes, managers, promoters, writers, Svengalis – the people who made it all happen.

If it’s relevant to the music of the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s I’ll be talking about it.
There will be some great music, some you’ll recognise and some that you might well be hearing for the first time.
