RocknRoll Unravelled Hour July

The RocknRoll Unravelled Hour July, Derek Shelmerdine in conversation with host Dave Roberts on his show Music for Grown Ups on Meridian FM, 20 July 2017.
What was happening in the rock’n’roll world in July down the years, from the roots to mid-1970s punk…

The show is based on information in Derek Shelmerdine’s book Rock’n’Roll Unravelled, which tells the story of rock’n’roll from its roots to mid-1970s punk. Not just the story of the music but also the external events which influenced it, such as the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights struggle.

The stories in the RocknRoll Unravelled Hour July include: Jimi Hendrix joined the Monkees tour as the opening act; the birth of the Beatles – John Lennon met Paul McCartney; the Eagles played together for the first time – as Linda Ronstadt’s backing band; the Rolling Stones first-ever gig with the name “Rollin’ Stones”; the dawn of British skiffle; Phil Spector recorded He’s a Rebel with Darlene Love but released it as a Crystals single; and much more…
