RocknRoll Unravelled Hour August

The RocknRoll Unravelled Hour August, Derek Shelmerdine in conversation with host Dave Roberts on his show Music for Grown Ups on Meridian FM, 17 August 2017.
What was happening in the rock’n’roll world in July down the years, from the roots to mid-1970s punk…

The show is based on information in Derek Shelmerdine’s book Rock’n’Roll Unravelled, which tells the story of rock’n’roll from its roots to mid-1970s punk. Not just the story of the music but also the external events which influenced it, such as the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights struggle.

The stories in the RocknRoll Unravelled Hour August include: the inspiration for The Who’s Tommy and Townshend’s abandoned Lifehouse project; classic recording sessions for Big Mama Thornton’s Hound Dog and Little Willie Littleton’s KC Loving; Sun Records highlights; the convoluted story of I Heard it Through the Grapevine; Buddy Holly’s That’ll Be the Day solo and with the Crickets; and much more…
